Role Description:

The role of this position is to sell products and services to large, pro-channel customers outside the retail store setting. This position plays a key role in assuring profitability and general success of the individual operating units. As such, major elements of this role include:

  1. Developing and maintaining strong relationships with professional builders and contractors in the Sales Rep's specified geographic area;

  2. Developing and maintaining “state of the art” product knowledge in the building materials industry;

  3. Setting and meeting challenging sales goals.

 

This position is responsible for efficient and effective processes and procedures needed to support the accomplishment of goals and objectives set by Townsend Building Supply.

 

Dimensions:

This position is housed at the Townsend facility in Dothan, AL and reports to the Sales Manager and Store Manager. It requires close cooperation and interaction with the Home Office, with store personnel, and with Operations/delivery dispatch. Estimated travel for this position is 85%.

 

 

 

Specific Requirements Include But Are Not Limited To:

  1. High school diploma or equivalency; College degree a plus.

  2. At least 5 years experience in the building materials industry.

  3. Proven success in outside sales.

  4. Professional appearance and demeanor.

  5. Computer literacy and knowledge of current office technology.

  6. Knowledge of building materials and the building materials industry.

  7. Knowledge of building industry in the specified area.

  8. Ability to find, develop, and maintain effective customer relationships.

  9. Exceptional organizational skills.

  10. Strong communication skills.

  11. Personal integrity.

  12. Strong interpersonal skills.

  13. Ability to work with confidential information.

  14. Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  15. Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.

This position is responsible for:

  1. Setting and achieving challenging sales goals.

  2. Securing and maintaining professional builder and contractor relationships.

  3. Working in the community to assure a professional image for the Townsend company.

  4. Assuring that the customer receives “best in class” service in every respect.

  5. Being alert to things that need to be done and, without being asked, take initiative to see that they get done.
