Role Description:

The role of this position is to assist the outside commercial sales staff with the processing and ordering of material to fill customer orders.  This will include order processing, purchasing special order items, coordinating delivery with the dispatcher, and follow up with the outside salesperson or customer when necessary. This position requires direct interaction with the commercial sales reps on a daily basis. Continuity between coordinators and reps is essential to achieve established sales goals and maximize margin opportunities.

Major elements of this role include but are not limited to:

  1. Assisting the commercial sales team with daily business activities.

  2. Interacting with commercial contractors to provide superior sales support and customer service.

  3. Interacting with vendors to provide support to assure orders are filled properly and on time.

  4. Interacting with operations and dispatch personnel to assure on time and complete delivery of orders.

  5. Representing Townsend Building Supply in a professional manner at all times.

  6. Assisting with and performing administrative functions related to the position on a daily basis.


This position is housed at the Dothan location and reports to the Department Manager.  The position requires close cooperation and interaction with Commercial sales representatives, commercial customers, and vendors. It also requires cooperation and interaction with employees in the store locations. Estimated travel for this position is 5%.

Specific Requirements Include But Are Not Limited To:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent.

  2. At least 2 years experience in the building material trade.

  3. Excellent knowledge of hardware, building materials, estimating software and their uses.

  4. Strong communication Skills

  5. Strong organizational skills

  6. Ability to multi-task.

  7. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  8. Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.


Nature of the Position:

On a day-to-day basis, this position is responsible for the following:

  1. Providing any support for the commercial sales reps in any manner deemed appropriate.

  2. Processing customer orders.

  3. Processing purchase orders and ordering material from vendors.

  4. Interacting with employees, customers & vendors to assure full and on time delivery of orders.

  5. Coordinating deliveries with the dispatcher.

  6. Scheduling and processing material returns.

  7. Completing and maintaining proper paperwork for all transactions.
