Role Description:

 

The role of this position is to sell Townsend products and services to customers within the retail store setting. This position plays a key role in assuring profitability and general success of the individual operating units. As such, major elements of this role include:

  1. Providing “best in class” service to retail store customers.

  2. Developing and maintaining “state of the art” product knowledge in the building materials industry;

  3. Setting and meeting challenging sales goals.

  4. Developing and maintaining a professional image .

 

This position is responsible for efficient and effective processes and procedures needed to support the accomplishment of goals and objectives set by Townsend Building Supply.

 

Dimensions:

This position is housed at the Townsend facility in Ozark, AL and reports to the Store Manager. It requires close cooperation and interaction with other store employees, with yard personnel, and with other store locations. Estimated travel for this position is 5%.

 

Specific Requirements Include But Are Not Limited To:

 
  1. High school diploma or equivalency.

  2. At least 2 years experience in retail sales.

  3. Strong interest in learning the build material product lines.

  4. Professional appearance and demeanor.

  5. Computer literacy and knowledge of current office technology.

  6. Strong customer service skills.

  7. Exceptional organizational skills.

  8. Strong communication skills.

  9. Personal integrity.

  10. Strong interpersonal skills.

  11. Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  12. Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.

 

Nature of the Position:

This position is responsible for:

  1. Setting and achieving challenging sales goals.

  2. Greeting customers as they come in the store.

  3. Answering phones when necessary.

  4. Developing strong knowledge of product lines.

  5. Working with the customer to identify and provide solutions to their product needs.

  6. Assuring that the customer receives “best in class” service in every respect.

  7. Maintaining shelf stock to provide merchandise to meet customer needs.

  8. Maintaining cleanliness on the store floor and surrounding areas at all times.

  9. Presenting a professional image at all times.

  10. Being alert to things that need to be done and, without being asked, take initiative to see that they get done.
